Episode 13. Ignatius in Rome : Personal Vision to Universal Mission

Ignatius of Loyola and his first companions came to Rome in 1537 with a strong desire to serve God. At first, they were simply a small group of friends united by prayer and a common mission.

They preached the Gospel, guided people in their spiritual lives, cared for the sick, and helped the poor with great love and compassion. Their simple way of life and dedication inspired many people.

However, their journey was not easy. Some people misunderstood them and made false accusations against them. Even during these difficult times, Ignatius and his companions remained faithful, humble, and patient. They trusted that God would guide them through every challenge.

A major turning point came when they realized that they would not be able to travel to the Holy Land as they had hoped. Instead of becoming discouraged, they understood that God was calling them to serve wherever they were needed. They learned that God's mission is not limited to one place but reaches the whole world.

Pope Paul III recognized their holiness, wisdom, and commitment to serving the Church. With his approval, the Society of Jesus was officially established. From that moment, the Jesuits dedicated themselves to spreading the Gospel, educating people, serving those in need, and faithfully following the mission entrusted to them by the Pope. Their example reminds us that God's plans are always greater than our own.
