St Xavier’s College in collaboration with Marquette University  Wisconsin conducted a course on ‘Backpack Journalism’ at Xavier’s premises from 01Jan to 15Jan 2012. About 30 students benefited from this programme. On the Day of Inauguration on 01 Jan, the senior editor of ‘India Today’ Mr Uday Mahurkar delivered a key note address to the students and challenged the students to adhere to the ethics and morality in presenting the news. Fr Jose Changanacherry emphasized the need of instant communication in the globalized world and kindled the heart of the budding journalists to become voice of the voiceless and marginalized in getting their rights and dignity. Dr Steve Byers of J.William and Mary Diedierich College of communication graced the occasion as guest of Honour. It is for the second time that the ‘Backpack Journalism’ has been organized at St Xavier’s College by an experienced Backpack Journalist Fr Vinayak Jadav-the course coordinator of the Faculty.
