Episode 15. Ignatius - a wise and loving leader

Saint Ignatius of Loyola was once a brave soldier who loved fame and adventure. Everything changed when he was seriously wounded in battle. 

During his long recovery, he read books about the life of Jesus and the saints. These books touched his heart and helped him discover God's call. He decided to leave his old way of life and dedicate himself completely to serving Christ.

As more companions joined him, they formed the Society of Jesus. In 1541, the companions unanimously chose Ignatius to become their first Superior General. Although he was honoured, Ignatius was humble and did not want power or importance. After much prayer, he accepted the responsibility because he believed it was God's will.

Ignatius became a wise and loving leader. He carefully wrote the Jesuit Constitutions, which guided the members in prayer, community life, mission, and service. These rules helped the Society of Jesus remain united even as it continued to grow.

One of Ignatius' greatest strengths was communication. He regularly wrote letters to Jesuits serving in different parts of the world. Through these letters, he encouraged them, gave advice, and kept them united in their mission.

Under his leadership, the Jesuits started schools, colleges, and missions in many countries. They respected local cultures, learned new languages, and shared the Gospel with wisdom and kindness. They believed that education and faith could transform lives.

The life of Saint Ignatius teaches us that true leadership is not about power but about humble service. His trust in God, careful planning, and love for people continue to inspire the Church and millions of people around the world today.
